Woollahra Village News

Monday 15th June 2009 meeting with Energy Australia

After dialogue between the QSWWA and Energy Australia, the following was confirmed:

  • All works to Queen Street would not commence until January 2010
  • Other areas would take priority until January 2010 in order not to disrupt the primary retail commercial area
  • Any member of the community could contact Emily Miller in her capacity as Community Liaison Officer
  • Work would be done at any given time within a 3 day period
  • Woollahra Council would be responsible fro returning the pavement to its pre-constructive condition
  • Businesses and /or residents could “ negotiate” directly with Energy Australia in order to ensure minimum disruption to their enjoyment of their property
  • The note will be placed in the Council’s blue community board. Similarly the Village Voice would also have an editorial on the works.
  • Once the QSWWA Village Notice Board was put up a more detailed piece would be posted
  • A sub- committee has been established comprising of:
    • Rosemary McDonald - Residents Officer QSWWA 0401 291 291
    • Peter Neild - General Manager/Licensee The Woollahra Hotel & Bistro Moncur 9363 1628
    • Mary Read - Business Officer QSWWA / Brocket Pty Ltd Cambodia House/Reads 9328 1036
    • Jennifer Rose - Liaison Officer QSWWA 0419 344 789

The sub-committee will meet with Emily and/or Jonathan within the next few months and would then report to the QSWWA.

Whilst the project is embryonic in nature and on all levels the community both business and residential will have substantial inconvenience, it was agreed that the upgrade was essential.

Accordingly it was in the interest of all that we found a way to work together in a consultative process.

Streetwatch by Annette Robinson. 25 March 2009.

We have had some very positive response from residents for our new Streetwatch program as outlined in Village Voice last July, but as yet not all streets in our area have a watchdog.

We will send a list of complaints regarding potholes, exposed tree roots, dumped rubbish, inadequate lighting, graffiti, abandoned cars and other really annoying things to Council twice yearly and I have been assured by the General Manager that complaints will be attended to with alacrity. I urge you not to make unnecessary or unimportant complaints as this will mean that the important issues are not taken seriously.

At present the streets that have a watchdog are:Alton, Weldon Lane, Forth Street, Holdsworth Street, John Street, Dorahauer Lane, Morton Lane, Morrell Street, Nelson Street, Nelson Lane, Ocean Street, Pickering Lane, Kilminister Lane, Waimir Ave, Queen Street, Spicer Street, Spicer Lane, Victoria Ave, James Street, James Lane, Bowden Lane, Wallis Street, Woods Avenue and Wellington Street.

So if you live in one of the streets not mentioned above I urge you to contact me at mikediz@ozemail.com.au or 0417 326 419 to offer your time. You only have to walk up and down your street twice a year and report any problems to me. I will follow them up with Council.

Obviously those streets without a watchdog will not get the best attention…remember the wheel that squeaks the loudest gets the most grease.

And to those good citizens who have reported problems be assured we are getting on with it. If you’ve agreed to be a watchdog and have a complaint please let me know.

Annette Robinson.
