About Us

The Queen Street and West Woollahra Association (QSWWA) is a residents' and traders' action group, formed to protect the interest of local inhabitants and business people. It acts as a forum through which they can raise their voices effectively on planning matters and influence the decisions of public authorities.

The association is vitally concerned to preserve both the”village high street” atmosphere of Queen St and the interesting architectural heritage of the areas. It also seeks to prevent unsympathetic real estate development and to improve amenities for local residents.

Aims

Principal aims of the association are:

  • to foster the preservation of the individual architectural characteristics of the Queen Street and West Woollahra area
  • to foster amongst the public at large, and in particular the people of the area, a sense of identity with the area and pride in its individual character
  • to seek to prevent properties from falling into decay whether through neglect or unreasonable delay in redevelopment and to discourage unsympathetic development in the area
  • to press for the beautification of streets and recreation areas by an intensive and co-ordinated tree planting scheme
  • to fight strenuously against the pollution, disfiguration or spoiling of the area through the emission of smoke and fumes, erection of ugly advertisements, poles or wires.
  • to seek to ensure that at all times the quiet of the area is preserved for the benefit of residents and visitors
  • to ensure the safety and convenience of pedestrians and vehicles using the streets in the area
  • to organise fund raising and other activities wither solely on its own account or jointly with another or others
  • to make donations to charitable and community service organisations
